Late-Soviet Cold-War propaganda poster of the Defence of the Athenian Acropolis in the year CDLXXX A.C. (480 BC, during the Second Persian War), rendered in the manner of the Kukryniksy collective (Kupriyanov, Krylov, Sokolov — Pravda / Krokodil-era political graphic work, Moscow c. 1950–55). Three Athenian hoplite-defenders in linen linothorax cuirasses and Corinthian helms stand shoulder-to-shoulder along the wooden palisade, the centre figure raising a tall pole-banner bearing the owl of Athena in royal-scarlet. Behind the palisade rises the silhouette of the Old Temple of Athena Polias (the pre-Parthenon archaic hexastyle temple). Slab-sans CDLXXX numerals on the left edge in royal-scarlet.
